Hi Guys and Gals I'm about to embark on a new adventure making pens and wooden gear clocks. i'm 51 years old and a serving firefighter. Until recently I was a competion archer (almost 15 years but an injury has put that on hold for a couple of years). I bought my wife a pen from Mark Ligget and was totally amazed at its beauty. should be setting my workshop up in the next month or so. Oh and bye the way I live in Scotland.

Welcome to IAP Martin. Making a pen like Mark does is something even the most seasoned pro's can only aspire to. If he wasn't such a nice guy, I'd hate him!!!:biggrin:

Welcome Martin, from far west Kentucky, to the addiction, sometimes referred to as the vortex. Be sure to give the library a good bit of time. The link is at the top of the page. You will find an article called Library Index. This covers tutorials on about anything pen making you can think of. You will also notice that there are articles listed by year. Much good info there as well. When these fail to answer your questions, by all means post it here. I have never seen one go unanswered very long. You might also want to give this thread a good look. It has some very good info for the beginning pen turner; http://content.penturners.org/articles/2009/Getting_started_in_penturning.pdf. Grab some wood, make some shavings and have fun all the while being safe.

Thanks for the welcome guys and when I turn my first pen I'll be sure to post a picture of it for your opinions.
