Yes it is. I do it often for my daughter and her friends when I find it on sale and like the colors. It has the polish smell for a couple days but eventually goes away. I use about 4 drops per ounce in the silmar and havent had any problems. It seems to be a little more flexible at first but eventually hardens up just fine.

I also would all but guarantee that it would work. I used to thin it down and paint model cars with it all the time. The color options sometimes are cooler or at least cheaper than the good model paints. Thanks for the idea for sure!

My last pour I think I used about 10 oz of pr to the small nail polish bottle. (couldnt find my notes from prior pours) I got them on sale for .99 cents each so I wasnt really out of anything. I havent turned this one yet but know I will have to paint the tubes as well. I'll probably cut back to about 8 oz of pr per small bottle (.40 fl oz) of nail polish next time for stronger color with this blue. Its a little light.

Wow, that looks really good! I may have to try that. Right now I've only tried some of the PearlEx pigments from the craft store... and they ain't cheap! I know I can get cheaper stuff in bulk online, but for now I'm still trying things and experimenting. Thanks for the info.

That is some great info.. My daughter is a certified nail tech and can buy NP at wholesale. Man I am in biddness !!!!

I cruised through Spencers Gifts tonight. They had these little packs of funky colored nail polish (Halloween leftover I'm sure). Pack of 5 for $3.99 I believe they were 8 ounces each (I'm guessing).

I didn't get any. I'm not ready to cast yet. The Dollar store might be a good place to check too.

I would not get excited about nail polish, and my wife get it for free with coupons all the time. A lot of the Nail polish is pretty much just laquer and pearlex. Some of the colors are pretty solid, but most of them are far from solid. Like a peach nail polish..you have to coat your nails 2-3 times to see the color because it is so translucent. Obviously nail polish is going to work, because it's like paint, but it because it is usually translucent and most people don't get it for free, so it really is cost prohibitive. You can buy large bottles of pearlex for $4-5 and make a hundred bottles of nail polish on your own. It reminds me of the testors paint situation. Testors paint will do a better job of coloring resin than nail polish because testors is more solid, but again it is economic suicide. A small bottle of testors is running $1.49 these days. I can buy a quart of oil base paint for $9. It would take a ton of testors bottles to fill a quart. You only need to buy 5 quarts of paint to have almost every color under the sun. Less drops of paint and more pearlex will give you the nail polish look. More paint and no pearlex for a solid color effect. The sparkle that some nail polish has, well you can buy a tube of that stuff at a craft store for $2 adn it only takes a pin head amount of that stuff to make a ton of sparkle.

Are you talking about testors enamel paint? Can you use enamel paints to color PR or do you need acrylic paint?

I'm definitely interested in this as well. I plan on getting some PR at Michael's with the 50% off coupon for this week, and I'd rather not have to send away just for the pigments. And I have a few things I'm ready to try out... :)

I have been using nail polish as a PR tint for over a year and a half with no problems. One of my customers is a beauty supply distributor (they sell only to beauty and nail salons) and I make award gift sets for them using their NP. I paint the tubes with NP and add a little to the clear PR, just enough to add a little color to it. (Marketing Idea if you have a beauty supply distributor in your area)

Every three months they send me 1oz bottles of their current best sellers and I make 10 sets of each color. LOML has a ball painting her nails. As of last count, (10 min ago) she has 42 bottles of thier NP. One time she freaked me out and painted each nail a different color.

The only NP that works well is acrylic base.

You can buy testors as enamel or as acrylic. I find enamel works better myself. For alumilite you sure don't want acrylic. For inlace, I find the oil base works better than acrylic too. In PR I find enamels/oil base products work best. But a small bottle of testors is a buck and a half. Might as well go to sherwin williams with a coupon and buy a quart for $7.

Yeah, I always wondered what was so special about the testors paints. A little pricey. But I guess it's the same with the PearlEx pigments.
