A guy dropped off a bunch of wood at the local Woodcraft store, and some of it ended up in my hands. This particular piece is something I am not familiar with. I've cut several blanks, and I think it has some pretty nice figure.

Any ideas as to what it might be? I am guessing, and I do mean guessing, that it is Oak, of some variety.

Lauren, it does look like oak. the grain is pretty open, how about the color? did it have any barks on it when you got the wood or it was already cut up. the other thing. the new vers. of the chart has whole bunches of blank sample, you can check there. And, also, check on RJwolfe's site he has this section of the wood samples that are very nice for id'ng the blank.
Good luck.
