Verify that the lens is installed the correct direction. I have found the chances to be about 50/50.

Also, the rated focus distance might or might not be accurate, check that too.

I would also recommend upgrading the mirror mounts to make alignment easier. You can emulate a kinematic mount by removing a couple of the nuts and replacing them with springs. It makes a world of difference, especially if you have to move it very often.

Other than that, enjoy. They are a great toy to have around and you will never stop finding interesting uses for it.

The lens was replaced. The 1st one had cracked in shipping and FSE sent the OO a replacement. The focal length was a hair different (shorter) but he did a nice test of about a dozen different depths and got it spot on. I have the original lens to that does work as the crack was to one side out of the laser's way.

The OO also gave me a ton of nice model airplane ply to play with... as well as all of the settings he worked out for cutting & engraving various materials. He took lots of notes and passed those on to me.

I'm looking at a rotary option for it... the one I'm looking at is a pretty straightforward design, and I think I could replicate it on my own. Plus that would give me some play time with the laser itself.
