my new workbench

Been awhile since I checked in here, so here's my 'latest' project

based on the John White 'Newfangled' workbench design from Fine WW. using simple dimensional lumber.

My version is 5' long overall, I still have to add the 'planing board' which will span between the vertical pipes, as well as a bird's mouth

total cost is about $150 including the pipe clamps and hardware.

i like it. what are the pipe clamps for??

The horizontal ones are in place of the traditional end vice, the vertical ones allow you to plane a board on edge easily. There is a video on the fine woodworking site which explains it much better than I can:

thanks for sharing that, that's a very intersting concept I think I might have to think about making once I get a new shop (we might be moving this year.)
