My New (OLD) Grandfather Clock

I recently inherited a grandfather clock that was my great-grandmothers. I have a clock guy coming out to clean and oil it in two weeks. I don't know much about them but I'm sure some of you do. I can always count on the members of IAP.

My greatgrandfather had this clock built for his wife as a gift. The wood is a beautiful oak and the clock itself is about 60 years old. The maker is Ridgeway. and it says Made In Western Germany on the bottom. If any of you have anything to share I would love it.

If there are any major "Do Not's" let me know. Thanks.

It is running even after the 5 hour ride home in the back of a moving van.

DO - make it level in all directions. There will be less stress on the movement.
Don't use WD-40 it leaves a film that may become sticky over time.
Do - keep the weights "wound" so you can continue to hear it. Changes in its sound will be the first thing you notice when a problem start.

Hey John, Thanks for the info. I'll let the pro oil it and leave the WD-40 in the garage![] I will make sure I have the thing perfectly level. I'm attaching it to the wall this week and I will be using a level. I'm in Earthquake country here.[xx(]

Do not put on outside wall. Because temp changes can effect the time piece.
