I know a chap with a saw mill where I get some local burrs. He wanted a pen made from some yew that I had got previously. He got the pen and he gave me this bit of bog oak. IMG_1837.jpg

Great looking chunk of Bog Oak!! I'm sure the pen was equally nice!!
There was a fellow from Ireland that used to sell Irish Bog Oak on here, but i've not heard from him since the onset of the pandemic. Michael Hanley if i recall correctly--not at home or i'd look up his town. Hope he made it through Covid in good shape.

It's not that long ago that farmers, when ploughing fields and bringing bog oak to the surface, would pile it in the middle of the field and burn it.

I had a similar experience about 8 years ago. A gentleman who had been a wood harvester was using Desert Ironwood in his fireplace! I did get some nice sections, but they are a bear to cut up on my bandsaw.

Very nice section Alan, have fun!
