A few people have sent pm's wondering where i've been. A few months ago my best friend (Murray) asked me if i wanted to get back into dirt track racing. I said what the heck, i've got money to burn. So i found a chassis in Missouri for a great price. The last month and a half have been many, many late nights in the garage getting her ready for the track. It's a UMP open wheel modified car. The engine was built by Murray. It's a 380 cubic inch small block that dyno'd a little bit over 700 horsepower. And if you look close, it does have muffler's. My neighbor wasn't very pleased when we fired it up at 2:00a.m. Friday night to break the motor in.

So here's some pics from Haubstadt Indiana last Saturday. Hopefully you guys approve:biggrin: The last 3 pics are the muffler's!!

and I thought I was bad for starting up and flushing jetskis at 3am.

My neighbor on the right came out and gave us a thumbs up. The neighbor on the left was really, really mad. She was hollering at us, but I couldn't hear a word she said:biggrin:

I would have been right there beside you listening to it run, with a grin from ear to ear !!!!!! I do love the sound and lope of a wild cam !!!!:biggrin::biggrin:

It should be ILLEGAL to put mufflers on a race car:biggrin:

Nice looking ride Ernie. Hope it turns fast times. I'm sure you know, racing is addictive, AND expensive. My nephew has been working with some modified racers in Indy. Calls me weekly with updates. Have fun buddy.....we only get to be here one time.

You can't even tell a difference with the muffler's on. The cone goes inside the end of the header and bolts in. We only have to have them at a few tracks in Indiana, so no big deal.

As for expensive, we just bought 55 gallons of VP 108 racing fuel today. Cost was $455.00:eek:. The only good thing is between us we have enough spare parts to build 3 cars. He owns the engine shop, so that saved us about $20,000. Also I have quite a few connections in the racing industry so that helps. But as you say, I only live once, so burn baby burn!! Here's a pic of the cockpit for you Chuck. Notice the Old School logo.

Those last 3 pics aren't mufflers.... They are spark arrestors and probably only reduce your emitted sound by about 2 decibels!!! ;-) I can imagine how your neighbor felt.

I drove amateur Stock Car when I was 18, in Utah. Our neighbor got ****ed off when we fired the cars up at 2pm. He'd'a probably got out the shotgun if we had fired them up at 2am!!!

Stay safe and stay alive, but, by all means, WIN and have fun!!!

Wow when you take up a hobby you really take up a hobby. Sweet looking ride. Looks like it would be fun to take a spin around the block in. I may could get away with it living in the Redneck Metropolis where I am. We used to occasionally have a NASCAR driver turn his loose on the main road here to check things out.

I took a couple of cub scouts to the TRAXXAS TRAC races in Charlotte this past Friday -- a first for me -- we had a great time at the dirt track! I'm sure we'll try out some other races now that we know how much fun the dirt track is for spectators! Good luck!!

This is ONE reason we didn't move to NC. Too many race tracks:biggrin:

Ernie, I like that logo! That's the ONLY way to run.

Chuck, that's been on all 4 of our cars. That's my words to race by!! There is a certain track up near Indy that makes us cover it up before we take it out on the track.

Well, I suppose if you didn't mind the sound of my .308 Winchester popping off and sending guided missles in and about your work place, I could put up with the noise at 2 am......

Paragon, Winchester or Mount Lawn? Putnam? Wait....can't be Winchester, ARCA runs there.

Well Saturday was the first time out. Finished 5th in the heat. We won the B-Main and finished 8th in the Feature, after starting 17th.

Bet you knocked some of the pretty off'n her, dintcha? any "after" pics?

To be truthful Jon, we did absolutely no damage to her!! We barely grazed the wall coming out of 4, as it was still sideways. It just took a little paint off the corner of the spoiler. If I can ever fix the steering issue, i expect to be showing some winner's circle pics. I've worked on it for the last 3 nights and it's now officially driven me crazy!!

Them holy rollers at Paragon didn't like it one bit!! Luckily we're running mainly in Ky and Tennessee. Only planning on running two tracks in Indiana, Haubstadt once a month and Brownstown for the big race in June.
