Spalted Maple, 6 1/2"-2 3/8"
Shellac finish

it's my first bowl in months. needless to say, I've got the bowl turning bug again!

Very nice spalted bowl, thanks for sharing it with us. [:)] I know what you mean about getting the bowl turning bug... I got it 12 years ago when I opened my production bowl turning studio. Thousands and thousands of bowls later, I still got it bad - real, real bad. [:D][:D][:D]

I'm so psyched!

I just found out that the maple tree my dad cut down across the street is spalted and is pretty solid, not punky or anything.
I already turned a bowl out of it and it looks GREAT

That found wood makes it oh so much sweeter. I cut a hickory in may back yard last year and just happened to cut a piece for "firewood" and noticed the spalting. Needless to say it didn't make it to the fireplace, but the lathe. Made a nice 6" small bowl.
