I have 7 grandchildren and they are starting to take an interest in my pen activities. 3 of them the oldest girl and the 2 oldest boys, ages 12,12 and 11 decided they wanted to make a pen. Its been hit or miss for time to work on them and when Im available and when one of them is here etc. We finally got one made, my 11 year old granson really kept after me to work on it. I let them each pour their own blank. THey were each allowed three colors. I only had Euro kits the pkmont2 from PSI on hand as I use them for donor kits for the tubes, trannies, and tranny connectors.
He mixed, poured, drilled the blanks, all under my direct supervision. He even got to turn it down and use the mini skew I have. His sister will now be fired up to finish hers because he got one done and she didnt. the first thing I had him do when it was complete was to write his 3 cousins in Pittsburg each a letter.
There are volumes of improvement that can be done to this pen as on all first pens but he is on the way. We should have painted the tubes. THe tolerances are well..... close. but its his pen and he made it himself.
