Thus far I have only made fountain pens using purchased sections, which has its advantages! By reputation making your own fountain pen sections can be the most difficult part of making a fountain pen. I figured it was about time to try! I happened to have a Bock #5 nib/housing. Then I realized that I needed an M6.4 x 0.6 tap. Whilst they can be obtained the cost is a little too rich for my taste. So, I tried to figure a way around that, the criteria being that the nib/housing can be removed if desired. I could not think of an alternate tap that was close enough. So, I wondered if a push fit that was firm enough to stay in place, but not too tight that getting out would be a challenge was possible. It turns out that if you drill through the section with an I letter bit, and drill in a few mm's at the nib end with an H letter bit the housing slides in nicely. Of course, I don't how well this will hold up over time. However, it does work, and I can write without any obvious issue. Please see attached photos. The section is ebonite (gotta love ebonite :)), and the rest is Pearlux (Aluminite) from William Wood-Write. The cap is 13.25 mm and the barrel is 12 mm. I like slim, but nearly went too far .
