My beall chuck that my father bought me arrived today. Put it on a few minutes ago and wow. Any vibration I had has been removed. The end closest to the tailstock use to wobble a bit with the tailstock removed. I put in a new jcollazo mandrel and it runs straight and true. I have now traced my vibration problem back to the adjustable mt on my other pen mandrel. It didn't do it in the beginning, but does not for some reason.

Do I need to put some Johnson Paste Wax on my beall chuck? Don't want it to rust and only the collets have any type of grease on them. Do I need to remove that?

I don't put anything on mine. Just keep it dry and you'll be fine.
Yes, remove the grease from the collets and keep them dry also.
I take mine on and off quite a bit so every now and then I spray some WD 40 on the threads.

How do you keep it dry when wet sanding? Or is it fine to get some water on it as long as I wipe it off. Beall don't really send any instructions with these other than setting the collet in the chuck.

Hi, i have been wet sanding with oil, less splash.Just a dab of oil now. Carl

Mine sat on one of my lathes all winter and I noticed a little rust "patina" in a patch. I grabbed a green scotchbrite pad...turned on the lathe and held the pad around the Beall and let it spin in my hand for a few seconds...nice as new...

I just turned my first piece on my Beall. I too wet-sanded and just wiped the chuck dry. Most of the water flew in my face anyway. :)
What a beautifully machined set of tools they are. Like Jewelry.
