I can't believe I have had this new toy sitting in my garage for 14+ months.

January of last year I lost my job. In February when WoodCraft was having their big sale, I took part of my severance package and bought myself a new lathe. I took it home and put it in the garage but life snuck up on me and everything went to pot. It has been a whirlwind ride since last February....my mom had a heart attack, two open heart surgeries. My girlfriend and I bought a business, I found a new job and just recently, I had back fusion surgery of L4/L5.

I think it took my own surgery to slow me down enough to realize that I needed some time for me. So over the last couple of days I have been getting things together to start turning again. The lathe was too heavy for me to move so my GF and my neighbor took it out of the box and set it on the table for me. Today I took some time to clean the cosmoline off and get it set up for making some shavings.

Here is the 14 month old addition to the family.

This gives new meaning to the term " self-control". Now go and make saw dust. Heck if you run low on wood we are only 2 hours south of Lexington Ky---stop in.

Well, TG you had it brought out! Timing is everything, you know. Glad you are able to "make some shavings" now.

Wow - that is a nice lathe - smooth running from what I have read.

One of these days I will find the right folks to move my not so small metal lathe from my living room to the basement. I have searched the local yellow pages without too much luck. My next move is to see if they have one of those dolly's that are designed to climb down stairs that I can rent.

Nope - not using that lathe in the living room - just have it under a small plastic tarp.
