I have a good chuck I would like to start using on the lathe.. Instead of buying another whole chuck assembly to fit my lathe.. Would one of these MT1 arbors work allowing me to use my existing chuck?

Thanks!

Jason

Jason - for drill chucks there are a wide range of MT tapers to different Jacobs Tapers. Little Machine shop sells them.

For a scroll chuck - running them on a MT may be a bit more torque than is good. You do need a to lock in the MT with a draw bolt, and slippage could gall the MT in the spindle. With care it works.

My best bet may be to leave these on the shelf and buy a proper one already built for my lathe I guess..

Thanks :)

Jason, what type of chuck are you planning to use it with.
Scroll chuck? I would nto want to try that with any size MT
Collet Chuck? I use one with a 2MT and draw bar on my metal lathe. works perfetly fine.
Jacobs chuck in the tail stock? you should be just fine.

Jason -- most of those from small drills are threaded for 3/8 by 24, and some have a place for a locking screw that threads into the fitting.

If you look on the body (often near the bottom or on the bottom, most have markings for what the mating threads or taper is. JT3 and JT33 are common, and the adapting arbors are readily available from a number of sources (Enco, Little Machine Shop, JohnnyCNC and others).

My little metal lathe has a 3/4 by 16 thread and I have a number of drill chucks threaded for that.

I have been looking for a MT2 to 3/4 by 16 in case you see a source for those (not common).
