mounting spice rack

i didn't know where else to post this... so...

i'm trying to figure out how to mount a spice rack i recently built without having to add another strip of wood to it. the one idea i have is to get one of those hanging brackets that has a large hole to slip over the screw and then slide down into a smaller neck. the hole is kindof shaped like a teardrop or shower curtain hanger. does anyone have any clue what those are called or if you can even buy them in bracket form?

any other ideas on how to mount it to the wall would be appreciated. thanks y'all.

Butch answered your question. You are referring to a keyhole slot. While such a bit would ocassionally prove itself useful, I prefer to hang pieces with a French cleat. They are MUCH stronger than anything else and they are simple and fast to make. Yes, it means adding another piece of wood since it is already built, but either part of the cleat can be finished if it will show, so it would just look like part of the rack. If you want the rack sitting fluch to the wall and the back is hollow, just cut a piece of the same wood used for the rack so that it fits in between the sides. Then sand and finish the side that will be seen and rip it at a 45 degree angle down the middle. Attach one piece to the rack with the 45 degree angle toward the bottom with the loger edge toward the back. Figure out where you want it on the wall and attach the other piece with the 45 degree angle on top and the long edge up. If the rack is small and won't weigh too much, you can always just buy brass hanger brackets from some place like Rockler.

FOr something that is small and invisable, they make flush mount brackets. I don't have a link for them but My sister just bought some at home depot. they are two pieces of Z shaped metal. one mount to the rack the other to the wall then they hook into each other. the rack looks like it is right against the wall and you see no hanger at all.
 
Daniel, that would be a metal version of the french cleat, in some places it is called a Z-track. Funny thing is, I have been making and using them for years and never knew what they were called.
