In continuing my adventures in silver, I really wanted to make a simple, compact pen, reminiscent of the pen that first got me interested in silver pens. To keep weight and silver cost/waste down, I built the pen around an acrylic skeleton. I cast the barrel and cap from 20 gauge wax sheet, which I formed around tapered mandrels I turned out of aluminum bar stock. After casting In argentium,I put them back on the mandrels to true up with a hammer, and then on the lathe for sanding. I cast the clip from a wax model I made as well. The acrylic liner in the barrel is made from transparent gray acrylic, with black acrylic for the cap threads , which are 12.5mm diameter triple start 3mm pitch. The pen uses a jowo 6 nib and can be filled via converter or eyedropper, as the ink is contained within the acrylic liner and will not contact the silver part of the barrel. This is a simple pen, yet a challenging project, and was quite fun.
