This is spalted dogwood, spalting doesn't truly come out to play until the blanks are cross-cut, so I used this blank to experiment. I used the coping saw to make all of my cuts, and filled quite a few large insect voids from the inside while the blank was cut open. The inlay is padouak. I made the centerband out of corian. I was going to use a regular centerband with a silver Comfort kit, but I found out one wasn't in my basement like I thought it was. Doesn't look as bad as it could, but it's hard to match materials on gold kits.

The missus didn't seem too impressed with it. The usual Oh, nice! Ahh well. There's always next time. Maybe I'll get better veneer cut. I had some spalted water oak, but it cut too thick, and cracked when I tried to press it in.

You should really try some of this work on a larger scale pen! I see endless potential in your work and it could really make a statement on a larger scale. Sweet looking work and fresh ideas.

I WANT to very much. Right now my budget is REALLY tight. When money is right again I plan on doing Zens and stuff like that. As it is, keeping stocked up on Slims is challenging enough. Not much luck getting steady sales rolling.
