More birds falling in Beebe...

I don't know if you guys remember or not, but last year at this time hundreds of blackbirds fell in Beebe, Ar. Well, we actually go to church right across the street from the birds main roosting area. Tonight we had a little party to attend at the church and guess what!?! We were just walking into the church when my wife stepped on something, looked down and was startled when she realized it was a bird. We went in and put our stuff down and walked back out. That's when they started falling....
It's got to be the aflockalypse.....
My wife wanted me to make sure I said she is in her "ugly Christmas sweater" for the party...

Nope. The police came by and they said they were implementing an immediate cease fire of all fireworks.... Crazy how that never happens the fourth of July...
 
Interesting. I remember my son talking about that last year. I hope the underground in Searcy will open back up this year.

The USDA and several others do pest management on blackbirds in the south on a regular basis this time of year, the birds are all roosted together and easier to target. most of the "Mysterious deaths" form last year were just that. Including the "baffling death of fish" In one case I found the notice for the program in the back of a news paper that had run "mysterious bird deaths continue" as there headline. This could well be related to one of those programs or it's just a bird whose time had come.
 
Well, I guess it might have been the fireworks. I was a little skeptical myself, but there were several hundred dead around town last night when that happened around 7pm. The town put a stop to all the fireworks at that point and said no more, but you know how rednecks are...At 12 it was like world war 3. Then guess what... hundreds more fell. No kidding.

Same here, bunch of folks camped across the river, they had better fire works than Anchorage! But at midnight it was all heavy artillery, till damn near dawn. Sun dont sneak a peak over the mountain till after 10 am up this way........
 
Didn't even make the local news though....maybe tomorrow?


Just wondering what kind of 'spin' the locals channels will give it....sure don't want to loose the tax money generated from fireworks sales.

Several days ago, I watched fairly large flocks of birds swarming. They would land and then suddenly take off in a rush making a tremendously loud noise with their wings. They repeated this over and over in an area of a few blocks. They left behind an awful mess, but I didn't see any dead birds. I've seen this before in roosting areas, but nothing quite like it in areas where the birds are just "hanging out".

Don't know about today, but it did last night on 11, 7, and 16. We were interviewed at the church, but only one of use made the cut for the news. It was on 11. You can see me for a split second in the background of the interview. You can still see in on there website. It was my half second of fame!
The birds had fallen at 7pm. They did their interviews and put it on the 10 o'clock. They then fell again at midnight. They had a very small segment on the national news, but I think it is "old news" so no one is really paying it much attention. Just marking it up as a bunch of rednecks shootin fireworks...
It's alien's though. I know it!
