I have been looking for a metal lathe but don't want to spend a ton of money so I have been scouring Craigs List looking for a used one. I found this one but I don't like the way it is being advertised. It is basically a silent auction. Send in your offer and I will take the best one. I have until tomorrow to bid on it. He said it works and is a 3HP motor running on 220V. Not much more detail and unknown who built it based on the nameplates.

Those that own an older metal lathe, what is it worth? I don't want to offer too low but don't want to overspend either.....

Or should I just let this go and wait for another one?

Suggestions?

After looking at the ad, I would pass. There is a lot of other variables besides the motor size and they seem to be avoiding them or just know nothing of them.

Part of the problem is the 3 phase motor, you will either have to buy a new motor or a 3 phase rotary converter. Without a brand you may have trouble finding parts or accesories. I also recomend you pass unless you can find someone local that will help you sort it out if you dont know what your doing.

I didn't even think about that, but I have 3 phase in the shop.

What was the indication that it was 3 phase? I totally missed that.....

It doesn't sound like the individual knows much about it. That is why I asked here hoping that many people here would know something about it from the pictures.

Thanks for the responses so far!!

"I do know it runs on 3ph 220vac and it's older machine. "

Its in there,

I read it as 3hp. I guess I read what I wanted!! I even wrote it as 3HP in my initial posting.....

I guess it won't work for me after all....

Thanks for pointing that out. I would have felt more like an idiot showing up and buying it than I do right now......

Thanks!
