Maple Burl?

It looks like a spot where a limb was removed, years ago and it has grown over. Will this create a burl? Am I dead wrong, there was never a limb there? Can I prune trees and hope for a burl in a decade?

It might be a canker if there are voids in there.

It looks like you can see where the limb was and the tree is trying to cover the wound, so to speak. Whatever it is, it should have some interesting grain.

I think I'm going to cut it off, dry it, and see what it looks like inside. If it's anything interesting, I'll make a pen and post more pix.

Looks like it has a hole in it , might be a void inside .
