So I've got some pen kits that require a B mandrel (8mm)

I don't think anyone makes an 8mm mandrel saver. Can I make one myself? How would I go about that?

I've seen live centers with various inserts. If there isn't a correct insert I guess you could turn something to fit.

Drill the hole on the standard mandrel saver for the B mandrel. I made the through hole on mine larger and it works just fine,
Do a good turn daily!

PS: Bushing for the kits you want to make are probably available to fit a 7mm mandrel.

Got a metal lathe and know how to make it "sing"?

On the other hand, the additional diameter of the B mandrel makes it a lot stiffer, and reduces deflection under compression a lot. If you use a collet Chuck to mount the mandrel and keep it as short as practical, it will be even more stiff.

I have been looking for a long time and there is not the demand to get minimum order quantities.
