A few days ago Dee and I had lunch with Paul Huffman better know here as Paul-in-OKC. I had 2 of my mills to be sharpened and he said he would mail them to me this week. We talked about or mutual friend Eagle and he mentioned he still had a couple of his blanks. In todays mail the mills arrived and in the package were these:biggrin::biggrin:. It's goint to take a week to wipe the smile off my face. The top 2 I already had the bottom five made me tear-up........

!!!!!!! Everyone who knows anything about this just had to pick their jaw off the floor. Its shocking that there is this many blanks left! Looking forward to seeing some of these in pen form in the near future!

Lucky man!!!!

It must be nice to have friends who have soared with the eagles!!
Congrats Roy!

What an incredibly talented man this "Eagle" must have been.
Pretty good friend you have in Paul too!

Can't wait to see one of them after you apply your talents to it!

Well Roy - even though, I still had my tears when I saw them there... You are definitely a very lucky man to have such a good friend as Paul. I know you will treasure those blanks dearly as you did your friendship with Eagle himself.

Today I just started prepping the Eagle blank I have.
It was already sized for a baron. I know the picture is not good, the blank is wrapped and tapped while the glue for the tube dries.

I honestly didn't know that there were that many unturned Eagle blanks left, let alone in one place. Do Him proud with them now, you know he didn't really like for them to sit around gathering dust. I've been waiting to see that antler one finished for way too long now :-)

James I've had that one out at least a dz.this month times and your right it deserves to be made, Eagle always told everyone it's only a piece of wood or antler if you screw it up(cleaned that up:biggrin:) I'll make you another one........dammit Eagle you left us:mad:. So now we're on our own so I'll try my best not to f... er screw it up

Well Roy,

Here's a slightly differing view (but what's new about that??):
When Eagle was alive, I turned his blanks so we could both enjoy the finished pen and I could give him all the praises about his work.

Since he has left, I have not put a tool to his blanks. Nor do I expect I will. If I can't share the joy with him, I can always look at the blank and remember our talks. Every thousandth!!!! The pens, by today's standards, are just pens I have turned---his reaction when he saw them is all that makes them special to me.

So, do what you think best---but if you decide to just look at the blanks---that's the same decision I made---

At least, for now.

Maybe deep inside that's why the two that I've had were never turned, seemed when ever I made a pen from one of his blanks your right , we both enjoyed talking about it, and he always wanted to know how much I sold it for, it gave him a kick knowing. You knew him longer than I did but the couple of years that I got to call him friend and spoke to him at least once a week some times daily when he had an idea or was peeved at something were some special times. What ever I finally do I think he would approve.......

Well, Roy congrats on those scores. I never met the man, but from you all's description and from those pics. he was a talented guy. Now, the main qsn. is did you guys learn how he made those blanks or was that something that was special trade to him?

Roy, showing off and public gloating is really not a nice thing to do:mad:

But I just got off the phone with Paul and he said that you were supposed to share those blanks with anyone on IAP that had stupid rodent type nicknames and lived in far off lands:biggrin:

Oh well.......it was worth the try:redface:

Those are some beautiful blanks. Although he passed before I ever started turning or joined IAP, I can see the admiration through all of your tributes and, thanks to you showing these, his gifts and talent ! Regards, Doc

Oh sure like you have any room to talk Steven. How many time do you show off a pen that 90% of us don't have the equipment to even try. If Eagle were still here he would show you how to do it with a .50 HF screw driver!

Eagle sure would get a kick out of how much we value his blanks. It doesn't matter if you can replicate his work. It is not the same as if it was with his CA coated chubby fingers.

Wow! I'm gonna send my mills to Paul, too! AND buy him lunch!!!

Great and wonderful gift you received.

Like some of the other newer members, I never got meet Eagle, but I've a seen a few references to him and some pictures of the works he created. Any one with as much revere as I've seen for him from fellow turners, must have been one heck of a person.

Oh, so that WASN'T a prank call from the snotty nosed kid down the street.
Sorry, Skippy!
