Does anyone have a magnetic tool rack for their turning tools?

If so what are your impressions? I'm thinking about putting a couple on the wall to hold cutters, skews, etc. Any concerns?

I love mine! It sites on the wall just over my lathe.... Everything at arms reach.....

I just used two of the HF magnetic bars. For less than $10, I had a new tool holder!

I built a narrow shelf and mounted it below a magnetic bar - set the tools on the shelf and then lean them against the bar - even works for aluminum shafts with carbide blades!
Works great!

Great useful gadgets!! I have two fixed to the edge of my shelf above my ML. Holds allen keys, spanners, frequently used router bits steel rule, brushes etc etc. It has a dual purpose too...
....the stuff on it stops the other stuff on the shelf from rolling off:biggrin:
I have several of the magnetic dishes too, but sometimes find them a bit awkward.

I gave mine away as it made all of my lathe tools magnetic and it used to drive me nuts when you would get some pull or restriction on the tool rest. I guess I could have used them for other things. Oh we'll they are gone.

Lin.

I like mine, they work well. I even took apart another magnetic strip and filled in the "holes" between the strips with magnets for a continuous strip.

I think Lin has a good point though, some tools do acquire some magnetism.
I think I don't notice as much because I use a stainless steel tool rest for about everything.

Here's a pic of my setup with my line of magnetic strips mounted on a board behind the lathe. It does force me to shut the lathe off to grab tools, but if I'm in the middle of a project I lay the tools under the lathe for ease of access. Then I don't have to reach across a spinning lathe either.

I have one mounted on the front edge of the bench on my small lathe to hold small metal items...knockout bar, a small pair of channel locks, tommy bars, etc. On the other lathe I have two of them mounted on the front of each leg, also for such small items including my mandrel. The tools themselves are in holes drilled in a wooden 2x6 mounted lengthwise under the lathe between the legs. I was afraid of knocking the tools off the magnet strips and ruining the edge on the concrete floor. All together, I have about six of the magnet bars in the shop and two in the kitchen where I store the blades for my food processor, metal tongs, can opener, etc.
