Looking for Father Sing slim centre bands!

I never realized how much I detest turning slim line pens until I was faced with 13 kits on my workbench. I made a committment to a friend to turn a bunch for our Canadian Peacekeepers in Afghanistan if he supplied the kits and the wood so I'm stuck.:redface:

Slim centre bands measure .3485" whereas Father Sings are .4180". I would feel somewhat easier turning to that measurement.

Can you help me out? A larger dia. is OK as well, so long as the centre band fits on a 7 mm tube!

I could have thrown in a bunch of Streamline CB's (diameter .421"). Still can if you want them, I don't use any CB's on Streams or Slims?

Mack....Another suggestion is to omit the manufactured CB and make the pen without it. Just segment a different colored CB on the end of the tube. Russ Fairfield has a tutorial on them.

Hi Darrel; Good thought. Actually he didn't even use a centre band. He just turned to two different diameters at the CB, and decorated it with wire burnings!

Bear in mind that the troops like the slims because they have a little pen pocket in their uniforms and only the slims will fit in it.

I've got 11 going out Monday Mack, I used the CB on the 3 in walnut for the contrast but the maple blanks I got from our friend are going out without CB. I used up some of the little pieces of burl that I had laying around and attached them so the pens resemble the 7mm euro like this one. Turned the bottom of the cap to roughly .5" and the top of the barrel to .4". Also cut the cap so the barrel slides about 1/16" inside it. I'ts actually easier you don't have to match any bushings.

That sounds like the plan, Rick. But I'm thinking of a detour as well.

I have some Cigars that are looking for some wood. This might be just what they were looking for!

Got to get some upgrades to those crappy kit cartridges! Next to do on the list.

Cigars look good in it as well Mack. I did one in black ti for this batch and will likely do a few more for the next batch, I've got nine more of the maple blanks for the next batch. Ed4copies came up with an offer on ti gold slims at a price I couldn't pass up providing they went to servicemen. This will be the first half of what I bought.

Must be different sized pockets for the Canadian uniform. I did a Sierra for a Pastor overseas and he mentioned it was a perfect fit for the pen pocket.

I make a lot of my own center bands on slimlines. You only have to drill a .25" hole in the piece of wood or acrylic of your choice and once you are nearing the final diameter of the two end blanks then you remove the middle bushing and replace it with the center band blank. Turn it to what ever shape you like and there you have it.
