I have made a guest book pen and stand for our local church. It has a white feather in the top and fits in a funnel on the stand.

BUT; This is the second time it has disappeared after a wedding.

Does anyone know of a source for a decorative pen chain like the ones in banks?? I'm looking for something that looks good and decorative, not just a pull chain.

I'm off to look in the local Michaels in their chain and jewelry sections.

How are you planning on fastening it to the pen? I had a similar problem, and couldn't figure out how to fasten the chain to the pen. I had a pretty long chain necklace I was going to use, but couldn't find a way to fasten the chain to the pen. It had a decorative top so I couldn't fasten it there.

Sharon; I went to the local Michaels craft store and got some silver chain. I intend to drill the 7mm tubes and turn the barrels, then drill a small hole in the upper part of the pen and feed the chain into the pen. The feather quill fills up the upper barrel, and I believe I can just jam the chain end into the tube with the feather.

A ring finding that matches the chain can be used. You probably will not want a clip on the pen, and some styles have a "notch" where the clip goes.

Tip: Make the upper barrel longer than normal so the quill doesn't interfere with the transmission and ink cartridge.

I don't intend this to be a serious security feature, just a gently reminder, "don't remove the pen".

You could fasten chain to the pen using a D ring. Or even a round split ring but a D is probably better. Drill a small hole (diam. to suit the D ring wire diameter) in the barrel at the clip end at 90 degrees (ie. through the turned blank & brass tube)
Hope that's clear & that it helps.
ps you could shape the D ring with silver wire, (or plated craft wire eg. 14 or 16 gage) cut through the vertical part of the D.
