Personally I think the Titanium nitride coating is a gimmick! Buy a set and see how long the coating stays on, or more importantly... what happens to the coating the first time you sharpen the bit. I would buy the cheaper set.

Have you considered or heard of the Drill Doctor? You can make a set of bits last a LONG time. I've been sharpening my own bits for years and some of the bits I use with my pens I have had over 35 years and are still as sharp, if not sharper than the day they were new.

I bought the TN coated set but if I can do it again, I will go with the Cobalt set instead.

What Dario said! I have two sets of the Tn, one at my Stateside home and one here. The Tns do OK but they are not that tough, IMHO. My set here got dull from drilling aluminum. The aluminum wanted to stick to the Tn coating. I decided to use them only for wood after that since I need odd ball sizes for pens. The next set that I get will be the Cobalt set.

Well I went with the M2 HSS set. It was a little over $20 with the coupon. Once I sell more pens and have more funds readily available, I'll upgrade in the future if need be. I figured that the TN or cobalt coatings would have less friction/ heat and be a cleaner cut, but fugality won in this case...

Be careful with HF drill bits. I had a cheap set from somewhere and the tips weren't even centered. The tip on the brad point was off center. It wobbled when it turned. Remember, you get what you pay for. Just a thought.
