The past several months have been a long journey for me personally. They say things come in threes... apparently, I'm the exception. (My momma always said I was "exceptional". ) I know I've been gone a while, and owe some people pens, etc. I'll be taking contacting you personally and fixing my oversights.

Life has thrown several challenges in the way in the past few months. My mother passed away back in January and it took weeks of dealing with various people and agencies go get everything setup for her memorial service. We had moved her in next door to help care for her. My brother moved in there to help as well. We had move everything out, and it's amazing how much 'stuff' accumulates.

Edit - Oh, and the 1 life insurance company that's still around has moved to Uganda. Is that even legal?!? Still talking with the State Insurance Commissioner's office, but they hold little hope of seeing any money from it.

My job has been changing into something totally different since our lab system was replaced and I'm in the process of switching jobs...

School has had to be put on hold for several reasons.

My brother, who is a turner as well, has a intestinal blockage and had to be rushed to the hospital. 3 (I think? It's all a blur now) surgeries later, and he was due to be going home soon... The day after his last surgery he had a stroke. Since he just had surgery, they couldn't give a TPA (the protein activator that breaks up clots) for fear that he would start bleeding internally. He has regained some use of his right side, and is talking some but still has problems finding the right words. I'm doubting he'll be doing any more turning. They're doing the paperwork to try to get him transferred to an internal rehab facility to work with him. I haven't been able to see him in almost a week. I managed to catch strep throat. We couldn't chance the possibility of infecting him. I should be able to go tomorrow provided no relapse or fever.

Tam has had trouble finding a new job after her old employer's work slowed down too much... she was the newest employee.

I had picked up a mini-mill. It finally showed up. The bolt to the bottom pulled through and broke the speed controller box. 8 weeks before the replacement gets here...

And just to make life interesting, clutch went out in one of the cars -- guess I know what I'll be doing this weekend. (It won't be turning.)

So... what's new with you guys.

Rob, glad to see you are back. Sorry to hear about all the problems that you are having. But from the sounds of it, it can only get better. Life does throw us some issues at times. It doesn't seem that long ago, but will be two years in May that I lost both my dad and brother, about 12 hours apart, so I can relate to some of what you are going through. Some times you have to take one day at a time and even that can be hard.

Just hang in there and if you need someone to talk to let me know.

Mike

Oh, and the speed controller on the Nova went out. I sent it back and weeks later got one back (the same one), and still out. So instead of sending it off again, I built my own speed controller box using a 10A AC to DC controller that can later be upgraded to take a PWM signal and now will go down to < 1 rpm (not much torque though). It was cheaper to make my own than send it back again.

Thanks for the reminder Rob. Just when I thought I was having a bad day, what a reality check! Hoping everything does a 180* for you and your family. Prayers and best wishes sent.

Rob, glad you are back also. Hope things will go better for you now. Hate to hear about your speec control going out on your lathe. I went back and looked and you bought yours in January. I bought mine in February and my speed control went out also. Was yours out of warranty? Mine was covered but when I received mine it was damaged. Just received the second motor and speed control. I thought teknatool was supposed to have good support. It took me quite a while to get mine. Sorry for the long post. Hope all goes well for you and your brother. Also hope your wife finds a great job. Ted

Other than that Mrs Lincoln...how was the play? I feel the pain Rob...it's not easy, but that which does not kill us makes us stronger!
