I have a lady who wants some pens and pen boxes made out of live oak. I tried to explain to her that is not a common wood to find for sell, but she is determined. I finally found some live oak pen blanks and some larger pieces for some of the boxes. I don't believe I am going to have enough to make all of the boxes that I need to make though. Does any one have some live oak that would be big enough to make pen boxes in case I need some more. I am looking for at least 3/4 x 3 x 7. I would be open to buy or trade.

Thanks

I know, I could just go cut some out in the woods, they are plentifull in Louisiana, but I was hoping for some that was near or close to dried.

microwave it, plenty of posts around here for it, takes maybe a day depending how much free time you have to keep pushin the on button

what do you mean by "live Oak" ???

I have some curly white oak....I have about 10 boads some 8/4 up and 10' long....

I got these when I worked in a hradwood sawmill as a lumber Inspector,

I have onle made a few pens so far out of it....I just hate to cut up such big pieces for just pen blanks...

Mark,
Live oak is "Querus Virginiana" and White Oak is "Quercus Alba". Live Oak is typlically not milled for lumber because the trunks usually are so knarley there is little useful wood for lumber. I have included pictures of the leaves of the trees. The first picture is live oak and the second is white oak.

Jerry, I would appreciate it, if it's not too much trouble.
