I've been considering adding a second lathe to my shop for a long while, and with all of the new lathe threads that pop here on the forum I spend a lot of time looking at a couple of new iron options.
Yesterday morning, for some odd reason, I decided to dig out my Delta LA200. I bought this little 10 incher many years ago on a whim while searching for something totally unrelated on Amazon... it was on sale and I told myself "I bet I can do something with that". It's been mothballed for around 3 years or so. To my surprise, it doesn't suck as much as I remembered. The bearings are shot and it needs a new belt, but the points still line up and the motor still spins.
Yesterday I tore the quill down and cleaned all the threads up then re-assembled with a little assembly lube. I then blew the motor out with the air hose and scraped, sanded, and oiled the ways. This morning I did a little more general cleaning and called it done for now.
Just for giggles, here are the general specs for this machine...
120V, 1/2 HP, 1,725 RPM motor.
Six speeds (500, 800, 1,250, 1,800, 2,650 and 3,700 RPM).
14-1/2" maximum distance between centers.
10" swing over bed; 7-1/2" over banjo.
1"-8RH threads on drive spindle.
#2 Morse head and tailstock taper.
1-1/2" tailstock spindle travel.
7-1/2"H x 33-1/4"L x 11"W.
Weighs 85 lbs.
