Hi All,

My new CA Tech pressure pot has a leak at the liquid out hole. I was able to unscrew the fitting very easily with a pair of pliers, and my grease/plumbing tape fix failed miserably as expected.

I think pots generally have some sort of adhesive or something in the threads, no? This one seemed to have it, but it was thin and crumbly. What would that be? Can I get it at any hardware store?

thanks,
Invisy

You should clean out the threads and make sure that there is no grease on them. Use Teflon tape and wrap it so that it does not come loose while you are tightening the piece that fits into the threads. Is it a Harbor Freight pot? If so they tend to leak there. I had to redo the valve on mine with a better one and use teflon tape and got rid of the leak.

Clean the threads, and try the white Teflon tape. If that doesn't work, try the pink Teflon tape ( big box stores), or the blue tape (plumbing supply house). If that doesn't work, try the liquid pipe sealant (pipe dope) -I've had best luck with the stuff that is grey. And if that doesn't work, JB WELD.

If all that fails, give it 4 or 5 wraps with the teflon tape and put on a coating of pipe dope. That's how we used to put threaded stainless steel pipes together. Teflon tape and teflon pipe dope.

If it was thin and crumbly after removal it was likely one of the hardening type of gasket/thread sealers or maybe a CA thread sealant.

You can buy a tube of it at an auto parts store such as Permatex Form-A-Gasket No. 1 or an equivalent.

You have to clean the old threads to provide a clean surface for it.
