lignum vitea

has anyone used lignum vitae in pen making i am worried will glue hold the wood seems to be very oily.

I've turned quite a few pens with it. It does very well and shines with a "natural" polish. It gives off an aroma for a couple of weeks after it is finished and most of mine have darkened with age.

I've done a few, and had no problem with glue holding. I used 24 hour epoxy.

I use Gorilla glue and have had no problems. It makes a very nice pen.

Try it, you will like it. Very hard but turns nicely. And probably will not need a finish.

Thanks Jack for asking that question and thanks to everyone else who answered. I've got 3 pieces of Lingum Vitae that I've been thinking about cutting up and making pens out of. You guys just helped me make up my mind.

I don't think I've made any pens from LV, but have a couple of duck calls... it's a beautiful wood to work with.

I swabbed mine with DNA before gluing, don't know if it helped, but the tubes stayed (and continue to stay)!!

I didn't even put a finish on it... just MM'd it all the way out... pretty wood and smells great!
