I've encountered a bizarre problem on a pau rosa blank I was finishing. I used BLO/CA on Saturday, applying several coats. I left it for the rest of the weekend, and my plan was to use plastic polish and white diamond today. I got to the plastic polish, and found that part of the blank is just lighter in color than the rest. Not cloudy, just lighter. Like it was faded by light.

Does any have any experience with this, or any ideas? I'd post a picture, but I really don't think it's something I could capture adequately on film.

Have you tried to polish it yet? In colder weather, I've had CA look cloudy / matte finish after application but still looks fine after sanding/polishing.

That is after polishing with the plastic polish (PPP). I haven't gone to the White Diamond yet. I've got enough to do today that I can leave it til later this afternoon.

I'm now theorizing that I applied too much pressure while polishing, and the heat might have burned through a layer or two of CA finish. I just reapplied 4 coats of BLO/CA, and it looks much better. Keeping Russ Fairfield's advice in mind, I have refrained from touching it, poking it, running my finger along it, massaging it, or getting it a cheap hooker. I'm going to leave it alone until tomorrow, and see how it comes out.

I am learning the virtues of patience, but truth be told, I'd rather have the cheap hooker.
