I restored a Delta 1460 (1948) lathe some years ago and learnt all I know (so far) using this lathe. Would like to upgrade to something that does not need spanners and belt changes to do everything.
Anybody got comments on a Nova DVR?
No Delta available here and Jet does not pass the (my) test.
Thanks
Phil

I had a Nova 1624 and converted it to a DVR and really liked it. It was just too lite of a lathe for the 26" chunks of wood I was putting on it. (ourboard). I am going to get that new small one they have coming out in the fall.

About a month ago I upgraded from a Jet 1220VS to a Nova DVR XP. To me it was like stepping out of a Chevy and into a Rolls. It is smooth as silk and has tons of power, I love it.

Is it a three-phase motor? If so, get an inverter and you'll have infinite variable speed from 0-3k rpm. I now only switch between two pulley settings--low for bowls and high for pens. Mine is a 1971 Delta. Dunno if this will help.

I'm quite pleased with my DVR. I bought in March/April when it was on sale and got it going about the first of July. I built a heavy stand for it out and have turned some out-of-balance-stuff and it handles it pretty well. I am amazed at the torque and constant speed it has at low (400 - 500) rpm.

Now that's what I need sitting by the ole' Shopsmith!

Dave--

I love this lathe. My experience with different lathes is limited, but it is easy to use and has plenty of power even for roughing out chunks of off-balance oak at its greatest swing (~11.5")

I'm looking forward to trying outboard turning on it when I can justify buying an outboard tool rest.

Thanks for the comments. Now to find the funds.
Brad, I did fit a 3 ph motor and inverter. Works well but the rest of it is tired.
