So I started my lathe work on a Craftsman professional lathe purchased off of Craigslist. Had a lot of fun learning and recently I started churning out better products as my skill improved. I found the 2000 RPM speed limiting and I really want the new Delta midi lathe (drool)... As times are tough and with trying to save when possible, I kept my eye on CL. Up pops my new lathe (Jet 1014), got it for $150 with a dozen pen kits and a three tool set of HSS tools (I think they are the woodcraft small set). While not exactly what I was dreaming of, it is a step up for me. Whisper quiet, very nice. I'm excited to give it a run this weekend.

Now I will build a lathe table so I can sit and turn rather than stand. Should be more comfortable...

Craftsman is now for sale again on CL. I'll stick with the Jet for a while. Funny, I upgraded with a smaller, lighter, less powerful lathe. Oh well... In a few years hopefully I'll find my new Delta lathe on CL for a great price.

CL hunting is an addiction... almost as fun as turning.

Later!
JP

Delta

I held out for the Delta Midi lathe 46-460....after much study and review..this is the one for me. I have been using a Craftsman Mini and it is just about worn out. Good luck with your new setup.....

Wow .. that thing looks new!
Great find at $150! and that's with tools and kits???!

Yep, saw it listed at $300 a week ago and relisted for $200. I offered $100 and we settled on $150. :)

Kits and tools are new, Lathe has seen very little use. I feel very lucky.
