I could have sworn I posted to this before. :smile:But anyway this is a very neat idea and simple to do. If at all possible and legal, if a copy of that could be put in the library would be nice to have on file.

Tony...I use a similar arrangement other than using a MUCH smaller sanding disk for truing my pen blanks. A 5" or larger disk is a waste of sanding disk since you cannot vary the presentation of the blank, hence wasting the vast majority of the 5" or larger blank... Sooo, I use a collet system to hold my 2" home made sanding disk holder... I use a cheapo drill screw driver glued and installed in a turned 2" wooden holder glued to a velcro (from JoAnns/Michaels) to hold standard 2" velcro backed sanding disks.. It works perfectly and I never chip/split blanks w/this method to square blanks. Cheep, easy and fun to make, plus the sand paper holders are great for sanding bowls, spindles, etc... Can't beat the cost!!! Safe turning to you!

Thank you. I am actually enjoying Rick Herrill's jig, but I like different gadgets. I don't see how this can trim a blanks on all axes.

Not on that setup. The miter gauge is in play there so you can move the blank to all parts of that disc. Plus you can use it for larger blanks used on other projects. The biggest drawback with something like that is you still have to have the ends 90 degrees to the TUBE and not the blank if using for pen blanks. That won't do it.
