Lathe drive problem

I have a Jet mini lathe that I have been using as a buffing station with the Beale buffing system.

I tried to remove the buffing system shaft and it will not come out of the lathe drive. I have beat the extraction tool with a mallet until the threads on the extension tool knob have stripped.

I am thinking about taking a torch to the external drive threads hoping to heat it enough so it will expand and loosen up so the shaft will come out.

Before I do that I am hoping someone else has had this problem and knows a better way to solve it.

No torches!! The plastic knob has been absorbing the energy from your beating tool. Get another rod/bolt or use the now knob free extraction tool and hit it hard with a good sized ball peen hammer (or claw hammer if that's all you have). This is one of those bigger hammer times.

do you have a drill with a "hammer drill" setting on it?

chuck up a piece of 3/8 rod and put it on the hammer drill setting and try to drive it out that way.
