This is the lastest batch of Peppermills I've completed... these all got done before I started having trouble with the threadscrew in the tail stock... these are all the crush grind style.. the shortest one is 10" > Lignum Vitae, the Zebrawood is 11" and the glue up-- wormy maple, cocobolo and white oak is 11 3/4"..

The finish is a wipe on poly and then buffed with tripoli, white diamond and carnuba.

No sleeves...but I spray the sides with a water based sealant.. most woods probably don't need it, but doesn't hurt.

Gloat...
I did a repair job on 3 pens that I had sold to a local art gallery.. They had displayed the pens in a closed case under some Halogen lights.. the pens were only about 8 - 12" below the lights and because they were deer antler, they cracked in the heat. When I took the pens back today, I took these three peppermills just to show to the owners... they bought all three, plus all nine of the new pens I had made up... nice day's haul.
