Well all, as I sit in my office here in Shelbyville Tn, I will spend my last day thinking about all the crazy things that have happened here while I have been here over the years. one conclusion , I AM NOT GOING TO MISS THIS, I am looking foward to the free time and maybe being able to meet up with some of you folks that live within my days travel range. I have met some great folks on this forum and wish to meet even more of you. Hey sarge, I might even make it to your place for a demo on the turning tool, LOL, and it is your turn to buy dinner! Anyway I am glad that I made the decesion to go ahead and retire, I do see officers coming around that work the other shifts, so I guess we are going to have a suprise party................................................ I will sign off for the last time this afternoon as Seargent David Newbern...................

blessing on your retirement -- and hope you work your way though all the changes. Your head is going the right direction for the change in employment -- Hope you enjoy the challenges and opportunities of being gainfully unemployed.

I remember the day I decided it was time to retire and I thought the same thing you are thinking now, the only trouble is, I did miss it for a while. Now, 17 years later, I'm very happy to have retired when I did!

Congrats but you'll always be Sergeant Newbern!

David, It's about time you retire!!! After 60 years on the job, ha, ha, you must be tired. You sure do look it!!!! Come on down to the shop, made a new carbide tool that is round. Time to make more wood chips. Take care my friend and look forward to seeing you more. That goes for all of the other IAP members, you are all welcome to North Alabama to my shop anytime. Retired and Loving it!!! Gary (Sarge) PS, I only let civialians call me that, for those of you that understand the rank structure. Soldiers new better to say Sargeb but I am retired now and the srtipes are somewhere, not sure where.

Hey Dave, now you can come and pick up the decals, I still haven't forgot the viking one , but between Doctors and shows I'm pretty tied up in my retirement, Retirement isn't all that great, I've tried it twice, and still work harder than when I was drawing a check!! A real one not this stupid Social in-Security,!!!!

David,
Enjoy your retirement. Many are the happy pen turning days ahead!

Go and make a big pile of dust!
Enjoy it.

David--
Good luck on retirement. Let me know how it is. Thanks for all the years of Service. Now when people tell you to "Be Safe"...all you need to worry about is the machines in the shop!

Must be great to retire from a job where you know you did good. Congrats and thanks for all those years service. I retired when I was 55 and it was too young for me. I was burned out on my job and didn't miss it but I just wasn't ready for retirement. I got a part time job and finally just re-retired a 66. I'm ready.

Congratulations Dave,
As one retired brother in blue to another I think you will find that you will soon wonder how you ever had time to work. If you ever make it to the Dallas area I'll buy you a cup of coffee.

Dave after I totally retired I wondered how I had time for work, theres just not enough hours in the day...Sleep till 8AM...Shower until 9...coffee and breakfast until 10. Then go out to the shop and spend a couple of hours sorting my blanks and all of a sudden it's noon and on the intercom Dee calls me for lunch. Take my time with lunch while watching the noon news, after lunch take the dog for a walk come back from the walk and it's 1:30 so it's time for a nap. Usually sleep for a couple of hours as all the exhausting morning activities has got me tired and get up between 3:30 and 4. Now back out to the shop and drill a few blanks between a few coffee breaks it'dinner time..wow where did the day go and how in the hell did I have time for a job..
See Dave your about to fill yor days with so much to do it will amaze you or wear you out....

Congratulations on your retirement. I would really like to retire also, but I still like to eat and drink a beer now and then. Hope you enjoy your free time.

Tough to take

After a month or so you'll wonder how you ever found time to go to work. Don't look back...move only toward the future and have a blast going....Remember life is not a destination, it is a trip...have a great one.

thanks all, there was no tears untill yesterday when my son a Lieutenant with the Metro Nashville Police Dept. took me out to lunch to celebrate, he had a few of my former officers show up and I got roasted. was a lot of fun.............. still don't know how long it will be before I miss it.......................I know I was ready to go, have been for a while....... David
