Laser Pointer

I am looking to make a laser pointer with a stylus end. I have searched and only find one Berea keychain laser pointer. Just wondering if anyone has done this before.

If not, I may have to find a decent laser pointer, and a stylus kit and see how I can combine them.

I welcome any ideas and suggestions

Looking at the directions for Berea's laser pointer keychain, the finial (end with the keychain ring) is where the batteries go in...it has to be there (in some form) in order for the user to replace the batteries.

You might be able to drill out the center of the finial with a bit that will allow you to press in the nut for replaceable stylus tips.

One other hiccup you might encounter though is that the styluses need some hollow space inside to work well (they're essentially weak capacitors if you're targeting iPhone/iPad type screens...older GameBoy, BlackBerry, etc screens just require pressure and won't need the hollow space).

The stylus nuts usually press into a 7mm tube so I'd expect to drill a SMALLER diameter hole if I were trying to skip the tube...you'd want the hole in the finial to be a snug press-fit for the stylus nut.

I have in my head a Laser pointer that is made similar to a fountain pen to protect the laser. Unscrew the cap, and post it to the other side which would give access to the switch and the Stylus would fit on the cap.

As I said.. just in my head at this point. I was thinking of buying a laser pointer to take apart and use, but find that Amazon has just the laser portions, and then you only have to add batteries.

Just an idea... A friend of mine does presentations fairly often and I thought it would be something more special for her, but I also want it to be reliable and trouble free or it is pointless.

That would probably be much easier! Extend the cap a bit so it can hold a 7mm tube...you don't need the entire 1 1/8" tube from the kit, though the more you use, the better it'll work.

Just drill the top of the cap for the 7mm mini-stylus tube and install as normal. That kit does NOT need the butt end...I've made natural-tipped antler styluses that work just fine (as long as the user is touching the area directly over the stubby tube that goes into the business end of the antler tip).

Doing that in a fountain pen-style cap should work even easier.
