I put my hands on one this morning. It seems well made and the bed is very smooth. I really like the variable speed control, especially for the price. It also accepts a banjo bracket for turning bowls on the outside end of the headstock!

I'm looking for a 2nd lathe and this one may fit the bill.

I'd love to here from someone who has experience turning with it.

The out board attachment, if like my Grizzly G0658 12 x 20 is pretty much useless. The hand wheel is on mine a 3/4 x 16 left hand thread and to remove it you back off 2 Loctited grub screws and turn off the hand wheel. It retains the spindle in the bearings so everything comes loose. Not something you want to do very often. Make sure the Lagun is not the same if outboard turning with it is important to you.

The headstock and attachment look to be the same so these must come from the same manufacturer. To me, outboard turning would just be a bonus. Variable speed control is much more important.

What do you think of your Grizzly?

Tom

Solid lathe for the money. Display readout went out after a couple years but we regulate speed by sight, sound and the way the material cuts so it isn't important to us. 95% of the time it sits on the midrange pulley and it has made over 600 pens. I have a second, still in the box to be modified for rose engine stuff someday.

I know the title of this thread says "midi" but I think I would call this a mini lathe. It is only a 10" swing and 1/2 hp. If you wanted to do something larger it might be underpowered.

I have always wondered about the Laguna brand though. It looks like some of their tools are from that same overseas manufacturers as Rikon and Grizzly so I am not sure if quality is better or worse.

There is a thread elsewhere talking about this lathe. If compared to the Grizzly of the same size etc, you cannot tell the difference. Possibly the same lathe in a more expensive box.
