I sprayed several coats of lacquer on my cigar pen. Got a couple little bubbles in the finish. What is the best way to get these down? Should I micro mesh them from 1500-12,000 when the lacquer is cured in several days or will that build up to much heat and ruin the finish? Should I just hand steel wool it?

Thanks,
Corey

Corey - if it's just a Deft-type spray lacquer, it will be cured sufficiently in 24 hours to sand. Test it, though. If it gums up your sandpaper, give it another 24 hours. Start with 400 grit and go with the grain until you have gotten rid of the bubbles, then go through your Micro-mesh in the usual manner. In the future, two thin coats in a night is usually about right. Many more than that and your lacquer will start to set up. The propellant and partially set up lacquer is what is causing your bubbles. Also, do not spray with the nozzle close to the barrel. 8-12 inches away is best. Good luck and let us know hoe it works for you.
