Hello All:

I have sprayed lacquer and will give dipping a try soon......Has anyone had any luck with applying it on the lathe....Not in a friction way, but just applying it easily while the lathe is spinning slow....? I was thinking 3-4 coats over a day or two period, cure for a week or so, and then buff. Any ideas or info.?

Don,

I have applied lacquer in that way, and have had some success. Now, I use the lathe to apply my lacquer sanding sealer and use spray for my lacquer finish. I seem to get a smoother finish that way. I bought a rotisserie motor and set it up to turn the wooden dowel I use to hold my pen tubes for spraying. The slow rotation of the rotisserie prevents the sprayed coat from sagging since my lathe turns too fast for letting the lacquer set.

Hope this helps in some small way.

I do this all the time. I put the lathe as slow as possible. I use Watco aresol spray. I sand down to nothing less than 400 grit and then seal and apply Lacquer. I put a new coat about every 30 minutes. At four coats I sand down and take to 12000 grit. Then I add another four coats and sand again to 12000 grit, let it sit for 3 to 7 days then wax
