I met a guy who actually bought something from us on craigslist today who had a large piece of koa he picked up in hawaii as well as alot of mesquite which is green and wants to trade it for 3 slimlines out of the koa. Do you think this is a good deal? The mesquite limbs are about 3 to 4 inches acress and some are at the juntion of where limb meets tree. I know to seal the ends and let them dry but was wondering if this is a good deal or not.

Oh the koa he got from a group of guys that were actually making a canoe out of it on the beach don't know if that makes it more important or not.

Only you can answer that question. If you are happy with the trade then go for it. The mesquite will quickly get infested with bores(larve from the powder post beetle) and will become full of holes unless you do something to stop them. Turning off the bark and sapwood will help, but then how big will they be?. Zapping the logs in the microwave will help kill the eggs. I would cut them into blanks removing all of the sapwood and seal them or dry them in the microwave. Just my thoughts.
Do a good turn daily!
