Thank You Kitchener Waterloo
Hi,
This past weekend was the annual Kitchener Waterloo Wood show. I was invited to attend giving seminars on pen making topics over the three days. As always thank you Kathy and Bill for the opportunity. My focus always at these kinds of shows is to help promote the Pens For Canadian Peacekeepers project, also to share my knowledge with other pen makers.
This year Dana attended with me and was there for all three days. She helped set up the area and was a tremendous support, I gave her the role of managing all the sales from our table, she took care of that all weekend while I turned pens and gave my talks. I could hear her over my shoulder speaking with the public and managing them one by one, it was a great experience for her.
According to Dana we had standing room only attendance at the 6 seminars, a friendly experience.
There were many highlights through the weekend, meeting many online friends (Mack Cameron, Rick Gibson, Darrin, Jason, Dave Bell, Scott M, Steve Evans, and forgive me if I can't remember the rest right now).
Darrin, Mack and I, Darrin drove in from Kingston Ont (4 hours) to give Mack a lift to the show, Darrin you are a very special man.
I must speak of one person I met at the show, Stephen Gaebel. He is a painter and he started a project called Fallen Canadian Soldier Project.
Stephen began on his own, painting portraits of our fallen Canadian soldiers and then donating the painting to the soldiers families, all on his own as a symbol of respect and remembrance. He has given one to every family with a backlog of 30 at this time. He brought his work to the show to also sell some of his landscape painting that he uses the proceeds to support his efforts for the families. An incredible man, an incredible project. When I stood before the wall of these portraits I felt I was in their personal space, a very powerful feeling.
You can find more about Stephen's project and art at www.fallencanadiansoldierproject.wordpress.com
The weekend was a success, the banner was well signed with support, I shared a lot of information with many fine people and Dana and I had a wonderful time together.
