In Murray, Kentucky, it is illegal to drive a motorized vehicle on Main Street. On all other thoroughfares between sun rise and sunset the motor vehicle must be proceeded 50 feet by a man carrying a red flag 18 inches square and ringing a cow bell. The same conditions exist between sunset and sun rise except the red flag is to be replaced by a red lantern. Further more, if you meet an an animal conveyance while driving a motor vehicle within the city confines fo Murray, Kentucky, you must pull your motor vehicle behind a tree and dismantle it.
How about them apples and I know the rest of the story. One of my cousins is the cause of this wonderful law.

When I lived near Bonham Texas there was an older cowboy that rode his horse every where, he forced the city to install hitching rings in a couple of places around the courthouse square, AND the city had to comply, The original courthouse which burned down in the 20s or 30 had them but with all the modernization with cars and such they didn't see the need when they paved the square and took out the hitching posts, old Sonny took the city to court when they arrested him for tying his horse to the light bar on a police car.
This wasn't in ancient history but happened around 1993 or 94 , but he also wound up getting arrested for carrying fencing pliers, Sonny was an old African American COWBOY that was one of the last of his kind, he rode his horses every where and if you needed some ranch or farm work he'd outwork 3 average men.
I doubt if he's still alive, I heard he was almost 60 when all the stuff happened but he was a legend around Bonham Texas.
