I have had a few messages lately wondering where I am and what I am doing.

Just so you all know I still drop in once in a while. I miss you all. I am still set on not doing the group buy thing and that was my primary activity on this group by far.

In the last two years I have been working on developing a self sustained lifestyle to some degree. I am in the process of looking for some land in the next year and have spent the last two years getting a few things start. beekeeping. raising chickens and growing tobacco are just three of them.

So I have spent a lot of time on other groups. with very different attitudes. and missing my old home more every day. Most groups are real jerks. I did find one small friendly beekeeping group that I like though.

So even if I am not posting remember I am still here and my heart is with you all.

Give me some time to get some things to fall into place and I may very well be back to show you all a real group buy :) some of them will curdle your blood. I hope to retire in 4.5 years so will need something to do.

A special shout out to all my favoritest of the good people around here. you all know who you are. And for the rest. feel free to ask who the hack was that.

Happy New Year and Very happy 9th B-Day IAP. I am proud of what you all have done with the place in such a short time.

I will not forget the first time I got sent a link to this sight. It was with a request to look it over and make any suggestions. There where all of two threads in the introduce yourself forum. and nothing in any other forum at all. I had the feeling of walking through huge echo filled halls. But I did see much of what woudl fill that space. I know one of my comments after visiting was that this format would kick down the doors for penturning. and it has done exactly that.

In 9 years this group has redefined what penturning is and become a major influence on what suppliers even offer. Tools like triple taps where never even heard of a few years ago. Acrylic was not being used except for what suppliers offered. and one of the biggest accomplishments a penturneir could hope to achieve was a glass like CA finish. Arizona Silhouette eye candy was about as far outside the box as it got.

You all have come a long way. Heads up and walk proud IAP. You are true leaders, not only in Craft but in Character.

I'm using the drills from your group buy and those leather cases, what a deal. Last I heard you had gotten into raising feathers. I was thinking about you the other day. Thanks for the update and good luck on your latest venture.
 
Hello Daniel

I just stepped back into the Iap family a short time ago. I had to get away for various reasons. But I returned with some new vigor and wanting to try a whole slew of things. You are one of the older members here and your group buys were done like they really should be and everyone benefitted from them for sure hands down.

Many of the older members are no longer posting and there is a new breed that has crept throughout the family here and good things are happening. Hopefully new and exciting things are still to come.

Good to hear you are OK and things maybe getting worked out in your life. Remember life is too short my friend.

Good luck with all your ventures and look forward to seeing you post more often here. Take care.

Nice to see you posting. I think of you when I drive through Reno on my way to Utah. I still use my barrel trimmers and the leather cases were the best that I have ever bought.

Since you have seen me last i have had three grandchildren born. All three of my children and their children are still at home and I am still about the only means of support. Something had to give.

As for the feathers. I had two different deals on Grey Junglefowl fall apart on me. and have not been able to find another breeder since. I did end up with some tiny chickens called Seramas and we raised abotu 45 of them in our first year. nothing that made good pen making material though. Those birds get unbelievably dirty. Anyway all of that has been sold off as it got to be to much feed buying. So my shop has equipment. and chicken stuff and beekeeping stiff and tobacco growing stuff, well you get the idea. SO I am on the hunt for more space.

I found a mountain top just at the south end of pyramid lake I can buy. over 1000 acres. no that is not a typo. for the low low price of 1.9 million dollars. Or something in the neighborhood of 20 k per acre. Other land in that area is selling for more like $500 an acre. There is a great deal in there for somebody. just not the buyer.
Anyway for all the buying and selling I have done around here. I don't have one cell in my body for doing real estate. I hate it I feel like I am surrounded by scumbags.
I sure love the views from that mountain top though. A huge crystal clear lake to the North East and a huge open valley to the South West.
anyway, when I get more space I will be able to set my shop back up as a shop and making pens will be part of what we are goign to do. Winter work so we can stay indoors and be warm. Summers will be way to busy with growing gardens and such.
 
Hi Daniel! I remember the day you joined. I was astonished that anyone would be interested in our forum. Scott had confidence, but I had my doubts. I'd love to see you visit more often, but I wish you luck in your new ventures.

You're probably familiar with Amos Ives Root, one of the pioneers in beekeeping. The A.I. Root company is just a few miles from here. Although they are a candle manufacturer and no longer sell beekeeping supplies, they still publish Bee Culture Magazine, and the original factory buildings and homestead stands today in the original spot. I took a tour there just before Christmas and I was interested to learn that Amos Root was friends with the Wright Brothers, and in fact was the first to document their flight, in the Bee Culture magazine of all places. However, I digress!
