I didn't want to hijack John (penhead) thread...

IF the PSI Rep who watches this forum would look upon this idea and give it some consideration to report it to the higher up's.

PSI produces many many Catalogs a year. When the latest on arrives the last one get put in the recycling bin.
I would have to assume that catalog, (last one spring 2012B) being a front and back 65 sheet most likely cost $1.50 to $3.00.(best guess mind you)

So instead of producing a bi-quarterly catalog. LOGIC dictates perhaps a bi-annual "Master" Catalog, with periodic flyers of no more that say 3-5 sheets. Letting us know of sales, closeouts, and new items. Would the saving of this perhaps allow for 1-3 more employees in say the order/shipping department? To quell our disappointing and disparaging comments. NOT to mention maybe a tree or forest of in saving. I'd rather turn wood than turn a page.

Why do we even need a catalog? I like paging through it but Everything is online. If you would rather call an order in, then look online get the numbers for the stuff you want and call. Send an email to customers telling of new products or sales.
No catalog = a bunch of educated shippers. Buy today and your order ships tomorrow.

Gotta have something to read whilst in ones thrown room.:biggrin:

Seriously, I do believe they go overboard on the catalogs as well. besides what comes in the mail, you get one with every order as well.

Other than a good thing to look through for ideas while sitting on the next thing to make, I would be happy with a bi-annual mailing and an email for new stuff with links to the site for the listings.

ETA: I also noticed that other thread got canned, it must have got ugly after I saw it last.

Hey...

These catalogs (and toilet paper) keep us foresters employed working in the forests...

you would stay employed, just that the wood is for turnin' not for paper.

Look at woodturnz they do the email thing plus a flyer in ones order box. I bet most of their generated sales, I would suspect, is from direct email.

I much prefer a catalog to searching on line for such things I use mine often.

I too like the catalog for looking through, I'd never suggest they not publish one at all.

Then my preferred method for ordering is on the website rather than calling, but that's more because I tend to order in the late evenings or weekends, when the phones are not tended, than any other reason.

better idea is how they do some of my accounting books.

ring bound - and they send me new pages when needed.

new items only need a page or two most months. close outs just get a new page with a blank spot. Best of all worlds?

I like looking at the catalog and then pointing out all the mistakes to my wife and son. Like this last catalog, the most glaring that I saw was the acrylic where they didn't paint the hole. The acrylic is supposed to be white and blue. It came out brass and blue.

Catalogs are to generate sales. Generally they produce more sales than not sending them. They rearange things in them to make it subconsciously "new" Often when looking at them, you might pass by something 10 times, but then in the new book you get the "Oh when did they start carrying this" or "I have not seen this color" ect. Places spend millions of dollars a year on advertising (Walmart, Best Buy, ect) and I am willing to bet the money they spend on the weekly ads generates a lot more than not doing ads.

No takers on that bet. If advertising didn't produce sales they would not do it, business people are not stupid. PSI does not advertise on Television or Radio and not a whole lot on the internet. Their catalogs are not sent at random, they go to a targeted audience with almost 100% being either past or current customers and buyers of their products.

Consider the mailings you get (if you've ever bought from them) Harbor Freight......

I use mine to hold the lid down on my throne and to help me relax while I ........ never mind. I highly doubt PSI prints these. This likely goes to a printing company the prints and mails them out for them. Also, many that turn pens have no idea what the internet is or how to turn one on for that matter and they depend on the catalog.
