Is the length of the top tube on a Jr. George as critical as the length of the bottom tube? It seems to me it's not, at least I'm hoping so. My super dull pen mill gouged out about 1/8 of an inch on one end of the brass. Yes, I know, mill out, sanding flush in.

If making it into a fountain pen, you COULD have a problem--the nib is long enough to touch the top,
when you screw it closed, you destroy the nib.

You can purchase JUST the tubes, it might be a good idea.
