Welcome from north of the border! It's a great idea to join the IAP, and a local wood turning guild if you can, too. Lots of folk are out there to help with learning.
Cheers

Welcome from the coast of Maine!

Be sure to use a 60 degree live center in the tail stock. They don't often come with the lathe. Using the center that comes with the lathe will not only be problematic but will most likely ruin your mandrel.

I want to share with you this "secret" ... Just don't tell anyone ....

Where is the real money in wooden pen making? « Woodcrafts

Look forward to seeing your pens!

I bought a 5 speed midi lathe from harbor freight. Im waiting on my psi order before I can fire it up, it looks quite nice and for $150, I couldn't beat the price, the reviews were great and shipping was only $7 and fast. I have never made a pen before but I did make a chess set in high school and I'm really excited about having a lathe, I want to try everything, pens, bottle stoppers, pepper mills, key chains etc.
