I'm wondering if anyone out there has had this problem.

I finally broke down and bought a 60 degree revolving center for the tailstock. The problem is, when I tried to remove the live center from the tail spindle, only the top of it came out (the portion that normally would contact the workpiece, or in penturning, the right side end of the mandrel).

If you have a moment, here's a link to the 1236 manual:

If you scroll down to page 11, the live center is part #45 and the tail spindle is part #46. Basically, the longer portion of 45 (live center) is still stuck inside 46. I've tried just about everything to get it out, but no luck. If I can't get it out, I can't insert the new 60-degree center.

Has anyone had this issue? Any luck resolving it?

I have a Jet 1236 and #45 will come out of #46, you may have to use a larger diameter punch than what is supplied with the lathe. You don't say where in Texas you are located, but if you are in the Houston area, PM your number and I'll walk you through removing it.

Thanks..

..a turner on the general penturning forum says it should be self-ejecting, that if I just turn the tailstock in the opposite direction, it should pop out.

What do you think?

By the way - I'm in Dallas.

I think it should self-eject - retract it all the way into the tail stock and then 'force' the hand wheel (turn on the whole hand wheel like you are opening a jar of spaghetti sauce, don't just turn on the crank handle). It should come out.
